Follow us on our roadtrip from China to Europe along the old silk road.
We called our trip "journey to the west" based on a very popular chinese novel about a monk and the monkeyking and a few other guys travelling west from china to india. Honestly we havent read the book and have no idea if they arrive in the end... But if you saw dragonball. Its pretty much the same.
If you like what you read or have some questions. Just comment. But dont expect an answer immediately... We are busy keeping our eyes and ears open and sucking it all in!

Day 127 - The last day

After a good breakfast buffet we packed up one last time. On the way out the "Wirt" (owner of the guesthouse) asked us where we came from, he thought the number plates must be from the Dakar Rally. Really? -  the Dakar Rally?

Haha - we felt honored and told the truth. China!

Day 126 - The snowy pass into Austria

Bye Bye Chris Mom! thanks for everything
Bye Bye Chris Mom! thanks for everything

After we relaxed in Chris home it was time to get moving and bring this adventure to an end. I had the feeling we are on a farewell tour since we arrived in Italy so now it was time to arrive. As we planned from the beginning Chris will join me on the two days ride from Kaltern to my hometown Landshut and then go back by himself.

To have some excitement we planned to ride over the Jaufenpass a 2030m high mountain pass into Sterzing and from there we will go over the Brenner into Austria.

But first it was time for a few farewells - one farewell for Chris family and especially his mom who was a great host and spoiled us 24 hours a day and then another big goodbye to our friend and partner in crime Mr.Kim.

Day 123 - 125 -  Kaltern; Chris home

One last time the three of us sleep in one room together, one last time we enjoy the smell of adventure, of the unknown, the sight of chaos and badassery in our room. One last time we wrench ourselves from the beds and out into a hazy cold morning grey.
One last time, because today we will reach Kaltern, Chris' home!

Walk up the basilica tower and instead of the basilica dome and look at the basilica with all the people on top who didnt mind the long waiting que

See Michelangelos famous David Statue

Watch the Gladiator movie as we already planned in Rome.

Had great Wild Boar pasta with Tiramisu for desert and Grappa ... For desert

Yeah.. I think thats it.

Our bikes shrinked in the rain
Our bikes shrinked in the rain

We left Rome after we had a bit difficulty finding the way out and drove along local roads north into the Tuscany. Weather was good and we planned a short stop at Saturnia where we gonna have a dip in the natural hot springs there.

We reached the area in the late afternoon and the promising smell of Sulfur was in the air. Ahhhh - good old Sulfur!

Day 108-109 - Meteora and Leonidas

On local roads
On local roads

As Kyrsty gave as some tips on sights on The way to Athens we made for Kalambaka next day in the morning. Around Kalambake are some weird Rock formations where crazy people built Monasteries on top. The pictures look very cool...so lets see that stuff in real life.

We went on the highway but left it soon because it was just too boring and we decided to go on local roads - you know, just like the locals do...

Day 106 - 107 -Thessaloniki

Lunchbreak on the way to Thessaloniki
Lunchbreak on the way to Thessaloniki
next stop Thessaloniki, the second biggest city in greece. This should also be one of the highlights of the trip because our good friend "Yanni, the greek" moved there after he left shanghai and we where really looking forward to hang out with him. Unfourtunately he was needed back in mao tse dong country for some "important" issues. Bad timing.
So after we arrived we met up with his girlfriend Aleksandra instead. She was a great host and dragged us to a very good restaurant just around the waterfront.
