Shakedowntrip - Day 01

Tag 01:

So.

Day 01:

So we're sitting on a mountain of tea somewhere in China. And I don't mean literally a mountain of tea. We're sitting on a mountain where tea is grown.

Well, I sit and enjoy the warm worming - Chris is still asleep. He's not easily bothered, not even by the five tea farmers who showed up at 6 a.m. to tend to their tea fields. They were pretty amazed to find two sleepy laowais with their whole shebang and motorbikes somewhere in the middle of nowhere. After a good while of Aah and Ooh and Aha and Ohhh they went to work.. and we as well. Better said, Chris is still asleep while I'm writing here, as already mentioned.

How did we end up here?

Today is day three, no wait! It's day four of our test trip.

We left Shanghai on Sunday at 11 a.m. and as always it took two grueling hours to get the worst behind us. I wasn't really in the right mood and we were heading out to sit for a week on our bikes. That took a while to sink in. But I assume that's normal. There's also bad days on the big trips. So why not start with it on the first day. It can only get better, right?

First Stop Moganshan and the swimming reservoir. We came here already a few times and the way was well known and boring. And as already said, I'm sure it will get better. We pitched our tents at dusk and and cooked delicious pasta. I was quite beat down and soon withdrew to my chambers.

In the morning I jumped into the lake and gave myself and at the same time my socks and last nights dishes a good wash. Those are quiet hours when the kids are still in bed and it's alright to soap oneself in some nature.

It's very different when an hour later there are busy Chinese everywhere and doing their business like speak loudly, walk loudly or simply stare or smile loudly. We took our time that morning. Too much time.

With bike maintenance, breaking off our tents and so on it took us till 11 to get going. But we even had eggs with veggies and onion.. well, mainly onion. Eww..!

At 11 o'clock then.. off to thousand island lake.

Insight: The early bird catches the onion.
