JOURNEY TO THE WEST
From Athens we will go straight to Patras and catch the ferry to Bari - Italy awaits.
We said farewell to Martin - this time a final farewell as he will stay in Athens for another week... So if everything goes according to plan we will not cross paths again. But on the other hand,
does it ever go according to plan? ... We will see - just 2500 km more to go.
The road to Bari was easy and we chose to take the local road along the coast instead
of the highway as we had plenty of time before the ferry leaves at 6 in the evening. The weather was ok and we where good in time so we made one sightseeing stop at the famous channel of corinth.
Pretty nice. Its a 20m wide 90m deep canyon that was cut straight into the rock in 1881 to connect the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf... - sharp like a slice of cake. We where lucky as
right at the time we arrived there was a big ship passing through, slowly pulled by a tug boat.
Tuff tuff tuff! Really cool!
We made it to the ferry port around 3 oclock and went straight onto the ship.. With our
cheap tickets we where not supposed to get a seat and where prepared to set up camp in a nice corner somewhere on the huge metal colloss... But there where not too many people on board and we
where invited to the airplane seat area by a nice concierge-pirate-captain-man. We had dinner and beer and wine in the restaurant and snuggled up into our sleeping bags. The rain poured down into
the sea and our ship - the fastferry 2 - took us slowly over to Bari - tuff tuff tuff
