The Bikes we use

We didn't look at a lot of different bikes for the trip. In china the choices are quite limited. And we simply picked the best availale within our price range.

If the bikes are not produced in china there is a very high import tax and a Shanghai License plate will cost you again the price of the Bike. So that option dissolved itself when we checked our Bankaccounts.

We decided to go local and get semi legal shanghai plates. That means we are allowed to drive in Shanghai but not in the downtown Area.

Chris got a Shineray X2 which is a copy of a KTM EX-C frame with an engine copy of a Honda NX250 inside and Matthias a Shineray X5 - The design is a cheap copy of a BMW GS and the engine is a copy of a Honda XR400.

We hope the bikes are up for the task - even there was a lot of "copy" in the sentence before.

To prepare them for the trip we made quite a few improvemnets - so we know our way around these toys a bit better and learned something during the process.

Winston with his Shop Chop Suey Cycles was a great help. He let us hang out in his shop, use his tools and pick his brains whenever we didnt know how which what works why... and that happened a lot.

Thanks again Winston for the big help - We think it made a BIG difference.

If you want to learn something from a passionate biker or get yourself a BELL helmet - or just talk some bullshit and have a laugh be sure to check out Chop Suey cycles on Jinshajiang Lu.

Winston that's what happens if you joke around in front of somebody elses camera.
